Residential Structure Fire on Westland Avenue
By CFD Web Administrator
August 1, 2012
At approximately 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, Cheshire Fire Fighters were dispatched to the area of 401 Westland Avenue for a reported chimney fire. Car 3 arrived on scene in less than one minute and found smoke showing from a two-story residence and advised that this was a structure fire and was not involving the chimney.
Engine 6 and Truck 2 arrived on scene shortly after the arrival of Car 3 and personnel immediately went to work in extinguishing the fire. The initial fire area involved the electrical meter, electrical service and also extended along the exterior walls of the house. Due to the electrical meter involvement, crews had to wait for the arrival of Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) to disconnect power to the residence in order for personnel to fully extinguish all involved areas of fire.
Once power was disconnected by CL&P, Cheshire Fire Fighters opened all areas near the area of origin and assured that no additional fire extension had occurred. Personnel and fire apparatus cleared the scene within one hour of the initial dispatch. No injuries to the residents of fire personnel were reported.
The Cheshire Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
