Mutual Aid To Southington For A Factory Fire
By CFD Web Administrator
July 31, 2012
At 07:59 AM on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, Cheshire Fire Fighters were requested to respond with one Engine Company to the Town of Southington for mutual aid for Station Coverage. The Southington Fire Department had just arrived at the scene of a factory fire at 406 Atwater Street in their town.
Cheshire Engine 2 responded from Cheshire Fire Headquarters with a crew of 4 Fire Fighters. While responding to Southington, Engine 2 was requested to respond directly to the scene of the factory fire on Atwater Street. Engine 2 personnel arrived at the fire scene several minutes later and supplied water to a Southington Engine Company operating inside the factory complex. Cheshire Fire Fighters also worked with Southington Fire personnel to deploy numerous hoselines needed to cut-off the rapidly extending fire from overtaking the factory complex.
The fire was placed under control by Southington approximately two hours later. However, Cheshire personnel remained on scene until approximately 1:00 PM assisting with incident operations.

Southington and Cheshire Fire Fighters deployed our "Blitzfire" style nozzles inside the main fire building and were able to successfully cut-off the rapidly spreading fire and save remaining and uninvolved areas of the building and complex.
The quick actions of Southington Fire Fighters using large caliber hoselines operating inside the complex allowed attached and adjacent buildings to be saved from the rapidly extending fire.
