The Cheshire Fire Department is not just a fire department, we are a family. We take great pride in our elite staff of volunteers that come from all walks of life. We believe that every member will use their experience, background, trade and values to bring something special to the table and contribute to our team. Cheshire Fire Fighters are expected to uphold the highest level of professionalism to continue our reputation as one of the leading fire service providers in the State of Connecticut.

We value the service that our members provide to the Department. The Cheshire Fire Department and the Town of Cheshire offer several benefits and incentives to recognize the dedication and sacrifice of our members, they include:

- Membership at two local gyms
- Property tax credit for up to $1,000.00 annually

- Reimbursement for fuel expenses for response to emergency incidents

The Cheshire Fire Department is always looking for new members to join our ranks. The following is the procedure for new applicants wishing to apply to the Cheshire Fire Department.
- Download and complete our membership application. Once completed you may bring the application to Cheshire Fire Headquarters at 250 Maple Avenue on any Monday night between 7:00-8:00 PM and ask to speak with one of our Training Officers.
- Call Cheshire Fire Headquarters at 203-272-1828 and speak with our Secretary. Your information will be forwarded to one of our Recruitment Officers.
- Prospective Members are encouraged and always welcome to stop in at any one of the three Cheshire Fire Department Stations on any Monday night between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM to meet with our members.
- All prospective members for the position of volunteer Fire Fighter with the Cheshire Fire Department are required to pass our Physical Agility Test prior to gaining entrance into the Department. All new prospective members will be required to complete the Cheshire Fire Department membership application. Once completed, your application will be forwarded to our Training Division for review. A member of the Training Division will contact you regarding the application and speak with you directly to answer any questions that you might have.
Following receipt with our Training Division, your application will be read at the next monthly meeting of the Cheshire Fire Department. Monthly meetings are held of the first Monday of each month. Once read, the application will be posted in the Fire Station and available for review by Members until the next monthly meeting of the Cheshire Fire Department, when the members of the Cheshire Fire Department will vote on whether to accept the new member.
All new members are placed onto recruit status for the first six (6) months of their membership with the Cheshire Fire Department. Following the successful completion of the first six (6) months and the successful completion of Connecticut Fire Fighter I Certification and Hazardous Materials Operational Certification, recruit members will be voted on by the membership of the Cheshire Fire Department to become active members.
