On Sunday, January 15, 2015 at 7:30 PM, Cheshire firefighters were dispatched to 731 West Main Street for a report of a garage on fire. The first Fire Officer arrived on scene in less than two minutes and found a fire involving a clothes dryer inside the garage of a condominium unit. The fire was extending from the dryer and into shelving and storage items directly above.

Engine 6 arrived on scene two minutes later and initial arriving fire personnel were able to immediately extinguish the fire using a pressurized water extinguisher. The dryer was removed from the garage, where final extinguishment was made.

The quick actions of Cheshire firefighters prevented the fire from involving the attached condominium units. Fire damage was contained to the clothes dryer and the area of the garage immediately above the dryer. Smoke damage was contained to the garage. Cheshire firefighters used positive pressure fans to clear any residual smoke from the garage and adjacent units.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Cheshire Fire Marshal's Office.
