In the early hours of Thursday, January 31, 2013, an unusually warm winter storm moved through Cheshire. As a result of the high winds contained within this storm, numerous trees were toppled and several power lines were also brought down.

At 4:56 AM, Cheshire Fire Fighters were dispatched to the area of 20 Cherrywood Circle for a report of an electrical fire outside the residence. Upon arrival, Fire Fighters from Engine 7 found a primary electrical line down in the roadway and burning. An adjacent parked utility truck parked on Cherrywood Circle was also in contact with the wire and had begun to ignite.

Cheshire Fire Fighters established a perimeter around the area and checked on neighboring homes for any electrical issues. Once Connecticut Light and Power crews arrived on scene and secured the power supply to the area, the remaining areas of fire were extinguished.

During this time, CFD members also responded to other areas of Town for power line and tree related issues.
