Cheshire Fire Department’s 1913 Model T rounded out the 2023 parade season with a win of Best Antique motorized apparatus at the 140th Connecticut State Convention held in Thomaston this year. The coveted trophy was awarded to the model T after it was judged against 10 other motorized antiques by the Connecticut Parade Marshal Association. The model T attended multiple parades in 2023 including Bethany, Winsted, Thomaston, Monroe and Beacon Falls securing best motorized antique in all but one parade where the model T took 2nd place missing by 2/100th of a point. Members have spent countless hours making sure the model T was ready for all for the parades, but especially the state convention where it was meticulously detailed for the event. The Model T was purchased from fire truck collector from Orange CT back in the late 1950's. The collector bought the Model T fire truck in pieces and restored it before selling it to the members of the Headquarters Company. It has essentially remained the same for over 60 years with some changes including the driver and passenger seat and the addition of chemical tanks. The model T did go thru a frame off restoration in recent years with updated paint and a restoration to the wood body.
The model T can be seen this Sunday at the Fire department’s open house at fire headquarters from 10am-2pm.
