On Saturday, December 17, 2016 at approximately 1:15 PM, Cheshire firefighters were dispatched to Highland Avenue near the I-691 commuter lot for a report of a structure fire. Due to this location being directly adjacent to the Southington Town Line, the Southington Fire Department was also requested to respond.

First arriving Cheshire and Southington firefighters found an active fire on the first floor of a two-story, cape-cod style residence. Firefighters from both towns worked together to quickly extinguish a rapidly spreading fire inside the residence. The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes of the arrival of firefighters and contained to the initial area of involvement on the first floor. However, the entire residence sustained significant damage from the heat and smoke from the fire.

One occupant of the residence was injured as a result of the fire and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The fire is being investigated by the Cheshire Fire Marshal's Office. Special thanks to the members of the Southington Fire Department for their assistance with the initial fire suppression and fire scene support. Thanks also to Campion Ambulance Service and the Cheshire Police Department for their assistance at the scene.
