February 16, 2013
On Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:35 AM, Cheshire Fire Fighters were in the process of clearing from a furnace malfunction incident on Maplehurst Court when they were dispatched for a report of smoke in the basement at 50 Hawthorne Drive in the South End of town.
Due to the previous incident, CFD personnel immediately responded with multiple Fire Companies and arrived on location within minutes. Personnel initially found no smoke or fire visible from the exterior of the residence. However, further investigation inside the residence found high levels of heat and smoke emanating from the basement stairwell entrance.
CFD personnel deployed two hose lines inside the residence and advanced into the basement. Once in the basement, Firefighters found fire extending from a closet area and extending into a larger playroom area.
The fire was contained to the area of origin and placed under control within 20 minutes of the initial dispatch.
The Cheshire Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
