By CFD Web Administrator
May 13, 2011
On Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 12:30 hours, Cheshire Fire Fighters were dispatched to 25 Upson Place for a report of a structure fire. Cheshire Fire Dispatch was notified from Southington Fire Dispatch that Southington Fire Units were already on scene and determined the fire to actually be in Cheshire. The street borders the town line between both communities.
Upon the arrival of Fire Chief Casner, several units from Southington FD were already operating and the fire was in the process of being extinguished. All incoming Cheshire fire apparatus were staged at the nearby intersection Marion Road and West Johnson Road as Chief Casner was briefed by Southington Fire Chief Clark. Once Cheshire apparatus and personnel were in place, command was transferred to Fire Chief Casner and Southington Fire Units began to clear from the scene.
Cheshire Fire Fighters found extensive damage to the interior of the structure, including a partial collapse of the second floor. Prior to the commencement of overhaul operations, Cheshire Fire Fighters used shoring equipment off of the Collapse Rescue Truck to stabilize the second floor. Cheshire personnel worked on scene for an additional three hours performing overhaul and salvage duties.
No injuries to the residents of the home or emergency personnel were reported. Unfortunately, two dogs inside the residence perished in the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Cheshire Fire Marshal's Office.
